Makeup Post: Red and Burgundy

Now, one of the basic rules of makeup is emphasize one feature or the other. Eyes or lips, never both at the same time.
However, I'm stubborn and adventurous, so I'm always willing to push the envelope.
Here I'm pairing a deep burgundy lip with dark red red eyeshadow.

I also did something very dramatic with my blush, its a pale pink colour, so I'm using it to highlight my cheekbones, rather than give my cheeks a rosy flush. i LOVE the way light is bouncing off my cheekbones!

Oh you see the nails? here's a closer look... Sally Hansen Lacquer Shine nail polish in "Glossy". It's a deliciously vampy wine shade with little gleams of red. Here it is with flash.

The native? i think its the perfect outfit to go with the makeup. There's nothing more dramatic than a woman in "Iro and buba" dressed to kill! Outfit post coming next!

Oatmeal Linen

I was sorting through my closet a few weeks ago, and I rediscovered my long-lost loose, slouchy linen pants! Must confess I’ve only ever worn them as pajamas, but for some reason, seeing them again after a long time, they looked really new to me! And as it often happens, I got a brainwave.

I was inspired by the utilitarian no nonsense fabric, paired with the wide legs. Also, these days I’m really into emphasizing my waist! Anything that can be dragged up to the waist and belted? Good with me! So I did just that, hiked up the pants and cinched them at my waist with an old ribbon tie belt from another outfit.

I paired them with a loose cotton top, and some wood toned accessories. There was also a slightly safari feel to it, which I played up with the leopard print wide bangle.

Nothing fancy, but it just goes to show that almost any item of clothing can be made to look fresh again, with the right extras thrown in.

Lime Green Claws.

This nail polish is supposed to glow under black light. however i haven't gone near any such thing since i painted my nails this color, therefore, I'll have to satisfy myself with them being suitably shocking enough in regular light.

The nail polish is called "can you dig it?" by LA Girl. here it is with flash....

Makeup Post: Birds of Paradise

One fine day, as i was trekking to work and listening to Florence + The Machine on my Ipod, i saw this truly gorgeous birdie! it was all cool gray feathers with a flash of lime green at the breast. It was stunning! I loved the way the colors were so unexpected, the neutral paired with the pop of fluorescent! And this was simply the work of nature! It just goes to show that even God likes "all things bright and beautiful".
So i made a mental note and as soon as i could i Googled pictures of all sorts of tropical, colorful birds, and i decided to do a series of makeup posts on them! So in the weeks ahead, you'll be getting quite a few surprises!
To start the trend, here's my first birdie

I love the turquoise feathers, the jet black area on the face? Do birds have faces? As well as the red ring around the eye matching the beak and feet.

So i decided to do my own take on it, and here are the results!

I kept my lips a pale, glossy pink to avoid any unnecessary distraction from the eyes. i didnt use any blush either, and the bronzy glow? sigh, its sweat and my camera flash doing the tango together all over my face.

And what do we have here? Feather earrings!!! Lmao... Joblessness is a crime i swear... However i am a little obsessed with feather earrings. Ooh! The lime green nails match my bou-bou as well! Well that's just fabulous! Swag never sleeps! Loolz!

Green lipstick? Really?

Hi guys!
It was one of those weekends, and I got a little bored, so I decided to play around with one of the more unusual make-up ideas rattling around in my brain. These days fashion is much more individualistic than it has been in the past, it’s not merely about pairing the right bag with the right shoes, but about expressing yourself through what you choose to adorn yourself with. A few weeks ago I came across a picture of an urban model wearing the most shocking green lipstick!

Instead of being repelled I kind of fell in love with it! I’ve been playing around with extreme lip colour recently and her look resounded with me and I thought, why not? This is me in black lipstick...

So here goes!
I have on some base (MAC NW45 applied with a damp sponge)

I have on some beige eye shadow from the Sleek iDivine Sunset palette, I took it from the eyelid up to the brow bone.

I didn’t want the look to get too Halloween (too late!) so I only used some liquid liner (outer top lid only) and mascara. I also filled in my eyebrows with black pencil liner. I used black because dark brown doesn’t blend in as well with my eyebrows.

For the lips I used some nude brown lip liner to define my lips.

I then used some of my Sleek iDivine coloured eye shadow Primer as a base for my green lips.

I then used some transparent lip gloss over that to give the eye shadow I'm planning to use as a lip colour something to cling to. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of that step!
So to get the green lips, I tapped some dark green eye shadow all over my lips with my index finger.

To finish it all off I patted on a touch of peachy blush to the apples of my cheeks. I didn’t want it too bright, so it wouldn’t clash with the lip colour, but I wanted to brighten my face up a little.

There you go! Not as bad as you thought right?

At the end of the day, it’s just make-up. It washes off! Have a little fun people!

Miss Von Teese et moi...

Hi dolls!
Once in a while I’ll be doing a post on people whose sense of style inspire and enthrall me.
Anyone who knows me well can tell you that I am in love- no, I'm OBSESSED with the unbelievably beautiful and ridiculously polished Ms Dita von Teese (real name Heather Sweet).

She adopted the name Dita as a tribute to silent film actress Dita Parlo, and her breakthrough 2002 Playboy cover gave her the last name "Von Teese".
She’s a world famous burlesque queen, who doesn’t mind being called a stripper, “I don’t think I’m better than the pole dancers” and she’s also been featured on the cover of Playboy magazine, but for some reason, even when stripped down to crystal bedazzled undies and performing on stage (in a gigantic martini glass no less) she looks a perfect lady!

She’s 5ft 5” tall, with porcelain white skin, jet black hair and is never seen without her vivid red lips and matching nails. She loves old school style and glamour, especially from the 1940’s. Her style is very definite. She rarely deviates from her love for structured, ladylike clothes and over the top accessories, I mean she’s dedicated an entire room in her home to her collection of vintage hats! She’s never had a stylist, because in the past one of them dared to tell her to wear her vintage heels with a pair of jeans!

Even when she’s at the supermarket she manages to look stunning and pulled together. She’s said in the past about her extreme daily style choices “I advocate glamour. Every day. Every minute”

She loves to dress up, and throws herself into her persona wholeheartedly. She also does her own hair and makeup (she’s a natural blonde by the way and dyes her hair jet black herself).

She studied historical costuming in college and uses much of that knowledge when she collaborates on most of her stage costumes and photo shoots. She’s inspired fashion designers and has walked in a number of fashion shows, including the infamous John Galliano for Christian Dior, Ungaro, Moschino, Vivienne Westwod and John Paul Gaultier haute couture. She also counts shoe designer Christian Louboutin as a close friend and can be found wearing his delicious red soled heels often.

She’s designed a range of underwear for Wonderbra, created a signature cocktail with Cointreau, and has been a spokesperson for Mac Viva Glam lipstick which donates proceeds from sales to AIDS charities. Recently she appeared in the “what is va-va-voom?” television ads for the new Renault Clio, as well as with Perrier for their “paparazzi” line of sparking water. She’s currently working on the release of her signature perfume, which fingers crossed, I will be buying! She’s also done a bit of acting, most recently appearing in an episode of CSI early this year.

She got married to Goth rocker Marilyn Manson in 2005 wearing a deep royal purple gown (!) in Ireland. However the marriage lasted little more than a year.

Sigh... I love her total dedication to her look, the fact that she’s worked so hard and isn’t apologetic about the fact that she takes her clothes off for a living. Perfectly poised and theatrically ladylike she’s one of my personal style icons.

Urban Baby Doll/ Reno’s

Hi guys!
Went out with a few friends over the weekend and I thought I would do a little outfit post.
My style isn’t the trendiest because for some reason I tend to shy away from HOT trends and I prefer to dress based on what I'm feeling at the moment, rather than what The Style Network or E! has dictated.
Today I'm working a cutesy baby doll look(bows on my head and on my feet!) with a little edge (the fish-net tights), and my make-up is white and hot pink (hot pink lipstick is my thing you may have guessed)

I went with white and pink to echo the cute girly hair and outfit I had on, and the black eye liner to give it some edge.
I have on my basics: MAC Studio Fix in NW45, brows filled in with some black pencil and of course black mascara.
I then used white eye shadow from my SLEEK ACID eye shadow palette, as well as some white eyeliner in my lower water line- it’s said to make the eyes look bigger and whiter, but I just think it looks strange. Strange but attractive.
Black eye shadow was used to draw underneath the lower lid and above the upper lash line, just from the outer two thirds though.
Pink lipstick layered over pink lip gloss, and that’s it, the face is on!

I rolled my hair up into a top-knot at the back (sorry, no pics!), and tied this scarf on, leaving my fringe out of course. The head scarf I secured with some hair pins.

The fringe I then curled into these adorable ringlets and I just let them fall naturally, I didn’t comb through them at all.

Gosh I hate having my picture taken! Excuse the sour face and the funny looking poses; I will practice my “fierce” for future posts!

Rikky’s Birthday

Here are some pictures (not as many as I would have liked) from my girl Rikky Bent’s birthday on the 27th of January! She’s a very talented singer/song-writer, based here in Abuja who’s already released one album (in 2006) and is currently working on her next one!
She celebrated at Congress, a new lounge/club in Maitama and it was a fun night! What with limo rides, fab music (Dj Blend doing his thing) and delicious cake, just throw in a bunch of friends and you have more bubbles than a bottle of Rosé!

Head Scarves...

Isn’t the cute little bow adorable? It’s a cheap little nylon scarf I’ve forced into this bow on top of my head! It was the only way I could think of to disguise the 10 WEEK undergrowth I’ve carefully nurtured!

You could personalise it with a brooch like this:

Or tie it into this cute little pussy-cat bow! Meow...

Don’t just use all those scarves to cover your hair before bed, put some of them to use, have a little fun with them! They could funk up an outfit that’s a little bland, or disguise your laziness when it comes to regular salon visits!

Green & Yellow

Yay!!! I'm doing a makeup post!!!
Now, now, calm down, I'm not claiming to be a professional makeup artist or anything, but I love to face paint, and I’ve got tons of makeup, so there you have it!
For this look, I'm pairing the bright green and florescent yellow from one of my Sleek iDivine eye shadow palettes; it’s called ACID 570 and I LOVES it!

So this is me with some base on; Sleek velvet touch foundation in Henna, topped with Mary Kay sheer mineral pressed powder in Bronze2. My eyebrows have been tweezed and filled in with eye brow pencil.

For the next step, I had to layer some pale green eye shadow under the acid green because it’s a bit too sheer and didn’t POP enough against my dark skin. I know I'm probably meant to use primer for that, but I simply can’t be bothered, so this is a cheap alternative for me. I guess the camera flash makes it look almost silver, but trust me its pale green!

Okay, so this is the acid green eye shadow... I tried to keep it really bright closest to the lash line, and faded it up into the crease.

This is the bright yellow which I'm using to highlight my brow bones,

And this is when I’ve blended it all together...

Now I’ve added TONS of mascara on my top lashes (Mary Kay waterproof), and black liner, (liquid on the upper eyelid and soft pencil on the lower waterline).

This is me with some pink lipstick layered over transparent lip-gloss, I didn’t use any lip liner because it tends to make my lips look smaller- the lip-gloss makes them look sooo Jolie-ish no?

Now, I know, I’ve broken one of the cardinal rules of makeup artists all over the world, “emphasize one feature at a time, either the eyes, or the lips” BUT, this is a playful look, something to try on a night out with the girls, and I kind of like the contrast between the yellow/green on the eye and the pink cheeks and lips. I’m always pairing pink and green together, anyway, it’s a FUN look, makeup and fashion shouldn’t be taken so damn seriously all the time, I mean, at the end of it all, you can simply wipe it all off right?

Hello darlings!!! :*

Sooo, this is my first real blog post! ignore the xoxo ish i put up before, that was just a test run. I've actually tried blogging before, waay back in 2007, but i never got past the first post either, therefore I've decided to make a real attempt with this one (fingers and toes crossed).

The previous one was meant to be sort of autobiographical, all about me, myself et moi, but aside from forgetting my password, i realised (early enough, thank goodness) that I'm BORING! There's really no other word for it peeps, i mean my idea of perfection would be to spend the whole day in bed (ALONE) eating, sleeping and painting my face all damn day (bliss!), i don't go out unless some form of begging, threats, or bribery with food or makeup is involved. So thank goodness that blog/idea never got off the ground. One thing i do enjoy doing is studying people. People fascinate me, i love watching them and listening to people talk, even though i may not contribute anything relevant to the conversation. I'm used to being in the background, and frankly with 6 elder brothers, you'd better LEARN how to stay out of sight!

Anyhoo, my point is this, my blog isn't necessarily about me, its about the people i see, what they're wearing and why they're wearing it. Its about cool things I've discovered online that i think y'all would like to know about. Its about fashion, makeup, hair, whatever! it could be about YOU if you wanted! I'm serious! I love fashion, but I'm not the most stylish girl on the block, so why don't i bring to your attention the babes (and blokes) who are taking fashion and doing it BIG? I'm constantly inspired by proactive young people, so when i meet any, I'll bring them here to meet you all! I'm constantly on the internet, so when i read up on any interesting topics, I'll bring it here for you guys to experience it as well! My life isn't that fascinating, but I'd like to think that my opinion is and I'd love to share that with you. so once again,
